Southern Adventist University goes under lockdown, police have a suspect in custody

Southern Adventist University went under a campus wide lockdown Thursday afternoon in response to a "percieved threat" by a former student.

The lockdown lasted approximately 2 hours as police flooded the administration building and men's dormitory. The Greater Collegedale School System also went under lockdown, according to the Georgia-Cumberland Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

After the lockdown was lifted, the university released a statement saying that a former Southern student made a threat over delayed paperwork. The university was alerted to this threat by Chattanooga State Community College officials, the statement said.

Laurence Clayton, a student at Southern Adventist University, had a very difficult decision to make.

His mom had terminal cancer and he didn't know how long she would live.

But Laurence was only one semester away from graduating. If he stayed at school, there would be a chance that his mom would get to see him become a college graduate. However, there was also a chance she could die without her son at her side.

Southern Adventist University student dies

Cherise Miller, a sophomore nursing major at Southern Adventist University died Wednesday night, according to students at the university. The Tennessee-based Adventist university has not yet released any information concerning the student at this time.

Epic videos: Adventist universities edition

Today, we bring you two awesome videos from two awesome universities.

The first video is from Walla Walla University in College Place, Wash. In the video, students go backcountry skiing and take a video camera with them. The results are amazing mix of epic slow motion flipping and point of view shots.

Behind the scenes video of SAU President getting his hair dyed purple, flash mob appears

The president of Southern Adventist University, Gordon Bietz, dyed his hair purple on Feb. 10 for a good cause.

Bietz, whose normal hair color is white, had a deal with Southern students: If the students could raise more than $5,000 for a literacy project, he would let his hair be dyed a different color.

But there were more surprises than just a new hair color.
